Similar to college fraternities that use the Greek motif, Shriners International selected Near Eastern iconography and regalia to serve as the fraternitys theme when it was founded in 1872. It also serves as an outward symbol of ones membership in the fraternity. Shriners Childrens is committed to providing innovative and compassionate care to children. To become a Shriner, one must first be a Master Mason in good standing with a lodge under the jurisdiction of the Grand Lodge of the state in which he resides.
